The 3 Best Tips for Cleaning Your Gas Range & Oven
One of the most frustrating kitchen appliances to deal with is the gas range and oven, which require constant cleaning and maintenance because it’s used on such a regular basis. Fortunately, there are several quick and easy ways to clean your gas range and oven so you can quickly save time and money on repairs later. Here are three simple tips for cleaning your gas range and oven to keep it looking brand new!
1. Before you start cleaning
Make sure the oven and range are turned off and cooled completely. If you have a gas range, be sure to turn off the gas at the source before starting any cleaning. Gather your supplies: You’ll need a soft cloth, some hot water, dish soap, white vinegar, baking soda, and either stainless steel cleaner or oven cleaner.
2. Wipe Down your Range Top
Stainless steel is one of the most popular materials for ranges, and it’s easy to see why. It’s durable, heat-resistant, and has a sleek, modern look. But stainless steel can also be a bit of a pain to keep clean. Here are a few tips to make the job easier.
Start by wiping down your range top with a damp cloth. If there are any stubborn spots, you can use a bit of oven cleaner on a sponge. Be sure to rinse the area well afterwards.
3. Remove the Stove Grates
Before you do anything, you need to remove the stove grates. They can usually just be lifted off, but if they’re stuck, soak them in hot, soapy water for a few minutes first. Once they’re off, scrub them with a stiff brush and oven cleaner. Rinse them well and set them aside to dry. Vacuum up any crumbs on the bottom of the range before you wipe it down with a sponge dipped in warm, soapy water. Make sure not to use harsh chemicals or abrasive pads as these could scratch your surface and damage your paint job.
